L50-15, what is the size from THIS century LOL

I have to get these 1980s tires off of the rear of my T, they are L50-15s. Im a little confused at the charts Im finding online. I would like to go to a slightly lower profile and maybe a little wider on the tread. The rims I have will take it and I think it will give me the look Im after.

So what does the L50 convert too? I can go from there on what I want to do to change it up a little.

Thanks for the help.

These are radials. On my car:

You are correct but the earlier ones were not and most had to have tubes. And the cost!!

Let's see...wheels are Budnik Famosa S-series (no longer made), rear are 17x13 (had to fight Budnik to get this width), front 15x8.
Rear Hoosiers are 31 x 16.50R-17. They aren't made today, not much demand for 17" tires. I have a set in the attic in case I outlive these. But Hoosier does have a 31x12.50R-16 that looks nice: http://hoosiertire.com/assets/Pro Street 5 29 18.compressed.pdf

I think wheel and tire selection was the hardest part of building my car. Buckets are particularly tough if you want the classic big/little look. You can get big weenies, but they are usually for 15" wheels.

Thanks for the reply and information.

Looks like Budnik makes Famosa in splined knockoff but no 17" x 13" shown, widest is 15" x 14"W

Yes, difficult to choose wheel/tire combinations. I ended up going with Hoosier 31" x 15" x 18.5"W on 15" x 14"W Wheel Vintique chrome wheels. Considered trying 33" x 15" x 21.5"W Hoosiers with wider wheel but was concerned about fitment issue with trailer rear door and wheel boxes. Am using Firestone Firestone F560 155 x15" w/ Vintique 15" x 5"W wheel on front. Firestone tread is a close match to Hoosier.

We ordered and paid for the 17x13 wheels. Later Budnik called and said that would be a special order, an extra $200 per wheel. My dealer, Discount Tire, pointed out the Budnik site listed the 17x13 as a standard size. The DT manager was quite firm with Budnik and they gave in. When Hoosier discontinued the 17" tires, I put a search on eBay and found a pair at a big discount from a dealer who wanted to get rid of them.

Lucky you found out they were discontinued before it was too late to buy more!

How are you storing them to lessen the aging process???

I rubbed them with silicone, put 'em in a bag and into the attic. Hope they are still good someday.
Won't the heat in the attic punish the rubber more than somewhere in the 60- 80°F range. Maybe
that's the only place with enough room. Just wondering, in Oklahoma it get to 140° F in the attic.

I found this when researching how to store seals for my 200-4R transmission.

Hadn't thought of that. I'll put my remote thermometer up there and monitor the temp this summer. I can always put them in the dungeon. That's what we call the lowest level of our house, where the HVAC, water heater and trolls live. Houses here are strange. We have 3 levels of living plus the dungeon.
You had to mention OK. We had the best house ever in Ardmore.

It had been built by a builder for his family, so it had the best of everything. I mean crown molding in every room, the bathrooms, even the closets. The aerobic septic system sprinkled the yard at night. The water was said to be clean enough to drink. I didn't test that. I loved that house, but we had to come up here for 3M. :(

Maybe you should move back, lots more cruising weather in Oklahoma ! Just a thought! hehehe !!!

I would in a heartbeat, but wifey didn't like Ardmore. Too small and slow. Worked for me!
